Marilyn Allen is a well-known expert in the fields of acupuncture and medical malpractice. She holds an M.S. degree from Pepperdine University and teaches courses in acupuncture practice management and ethics at a variety of TCM schools in southern California. She is also the current director of marketing for the American Acupuncture Council.

John Barber has nearly two decades experience in teaching energy movement, and has helped thousands of students of all ages and abilities to enjoy the benefits of these dynamic movement arts. A graduate of Yo San University, he is a member of the Qi Development faculty and is the current Qi Department Chairperson. He is certified in several Ni family forms, including Eight Treasures, Self-healing Qigong, meditation, Dao-In, Harmony Style Taiji and Taiji Sword. He also holds a triple B.S. in Biology, Psychology and Computer Science, and an M.S. in Computing. In his previous career, he worked as an intelligent systems developer, internal consultant, project manager and program manager for several Fortune 500 companies. He has a private medical practice in Venice.

 

Curt Callison
Qi Development Department

Curt Callison has been involved with the healing movement arts for over thirty years. He began his education at Esalen Institute in the late 1970's. From then he has continued to learn and teach in both America and Europe. He was first introduced to The Ni Family Qi Arts in the 1980's. Since the early part of this century he has focused primarily on the Ni Family Arts of the Path of Constructive Life while becoming certified as a Spiritual Coach of the tradition. He is certified in several forms of this tradition including The Eight Treasures.

 

Julie Chambers, MATCM, L.Ac.

Julie Chambers was introduced to Chinese medicine in 1991 and began her studies in Chinese medicine at Yo San University the same year. After graduating with the University's highest honors in 1996, she began her private practice of acupuncture and herbal medicine. Julie joined the administration at YSU in 1998, serving as Associate Academic Dean and then as Academic Dean until 2001. She teaches Herbal Pharmacopoeia and Herbal Formulas, has been on the faculty in the herbal department since 2000, currently serving as its Chair. In addition to her teaching and private practice, several times per year Julie visits other acupuncture and Chinese medicine schools around the country as an ACAOM site visitor. Julie maintains a raw herbal pharmacy at both her practice locations, in the Yo San building and in Santa Monica. She is married, with three children and three grandchildren, and lives in Santa Monica.

Yamin Chehin has over ten years of experience in teaching classes on mindful movement. She has helped many people to find joy in the understanding of the physical and energetic connections within their bodies through the “Eight Treasures” form transmitted by the Ni family. She graduated from Yo San University and has extensive training in the Alexander Technique, especially useful for postural imbalances. She has her private practice in Culver City.

John Chen received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy and his Ph.D. from South Baylo University. He is the president and founder of Evergreen Herbs and co-author of Chinese Medical Herbology and Pharmacology. He lectures widely on topics from both western and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Brady Chin has over twenty years of experience in athletics, yoga, qigong and martial arts, endowing him with an athlete's understanding of the issues that arise in Sports Medicine. He is a member of the academic and clinical faculty at Yo San. He graduated from Samra University and previously served in various administrative roles at several other schools of Oriental Medicine. He has a private practice in Westwood.

David Cohen has a B.A. in English Literature from Swarthmore College and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from San Francisco State College. He received his Acupuncture Certificate from the California Acupuncture College in 1985 and has been in private practice since 1986, specializing in internal medicine, especially problems of aging such as menopause, aging in men, and inflammatory and immune-compromised diseases. David has taught at Yo San since the school first opened in 1989, teaching Principles and Theories of TCM and TCM Diagnosis. He served as clinic director here from 1997-1998.

Laraine Crampton has taught several Ni family qigong forms for ten years. She considers qigong one of the most valuable self-care assets in her own life, as well as in the lives of her patients. She graduated from Yo San University and is a member of Yo San's Qi development, academic and clinical faculty. She is editor and co-author of Chinese Medical Herbology and Pharmacology and has a private practice in Santa Monica.

Dr. Margo Deleaver is a board certified physician, trained in both Western Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine. She received her medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo and received her TCM Master’s degree from Yo San University. She also has a Master’s Degree in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica in California and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Besides teaching Western medical classes at Yo San, Dr. DeLeaver privately practices both pediatrics and acupuncture.

 

Wing-benn Deng, BS, PhD, MATCM, L.Ac.

Wing-benn Deng emigrated from his native Taiwan in 1995, intending to pursue a career in western medicine in the United States. He enrolled in pre-med studies at the University of California, San Diego, earning his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Upon graduation he experienced some personal health problems that altered his thinking about Western medicine. He decided to focus on holistic healing and entered the graduate program at Yo San. As a student at Yo San, Wing-benn served as library manager, teaching assistant and tutor, and graduated with honors. Wing-benn has served on Yo San's clinic staff in the herbal laboratory since graduation, and teaches courses including Chinese Herbal Pharmacopoeia, Chinese Nutrition, Acupuncture, and a State Board Review class. He has also held a well-received series of community lectures at senior centers dealing with healthy aging, and has a private practice at the Yo San Clinic.

Doug Eisenstark's first career was as an artist, photographer and video editor, but for many years he had an interest in Chinese Medicine. His interest grew while living for 12 years in New York City's Chinatown. After moving to Los Angeles he had the opportunity to pursue his studies in TCM. Doug has since gone to Shanghai and Beijing for three educational trips. Doug has been active in the larger acupuncture community, moderating the on-line TCM group, Chinese Herbal Academy, as well as publishing articles in Caregiver magazine. With Huabing Wen he produced the educational DVD, Finding the Acupuncture Points. He is also a Continuing Education Provider for the State of California. Doug is a clinical supervisor at Yo San, and also teaches Acupuncture Techniques, Auricular Acupuncture and Clinical Theatre. He maintains a private practice in West Los Angeles.

Cormac Ferguson has been teaching herbology and Chinese medical theory for fifteen years and is the author of the recently published formula writing workbook “The Book of Modules." He brings to the subject of Chinese herbology a wide range of teaching and clinical experience, which includes positions at various hospitals and clinics in the Southern California region. He is also an accomplished jazz and blues musician, conducts TCM seminars around Southern California, and is currently working on his next book “The Art of Formula Construction.”

Descended from the famous Gu family lineage of Shanghai, Nai-qiang Gu was steeped in the rich tradition of Chinese Medicine from an early age. He graduated from Shanghai University of TCM and has more than four decades of clinical experience. He has authored many research papers and several books, and is a regularly featured instructor in Yo San's Continuing Education program. He has been a faculty member and clinical supervisor at Yo San University since 2001.

Jiling Hu, a native of Hu Bei province in China, received her medical degree at Hubei University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in Central China. She completed her residency at Hubei University of TCM Hospital, where she focused her training in Gynecology and Internal Medicine. Soon after finishing her residency, Ms. Hu entered graduate school at the prestigious Bejing University of TCM and the world-renowned Dong Zhi Men Hospital. She received a Master's degree in Endocrinology and Immunological Disorders, integrating TCM and Western medicine. After completing her graduate studies, she was soon promoted to attending TCM physician at the distinguished China Japan Friendship Hospital in Bejing. During her tenure there Ms. Hu treated a large number of patients, taught medical students, and wrote a number of medical papers on diabetes, thyroid disorders, menopause, and arthritis. Ms. Hu has traveled extensively around the world to teach acupuncture and is currently a practitioner and professor at the Yo San University in Los Angeles, California.

Shiaoting Jing graduated from GanSu College of TCM in 1984, and received her DOM from Beijing University of TCM in 1991. She taught and practiced at Beijing University of TCM, and served as Chief Physician at Beijing Immunology Hospital. She also served as Chief Doctor of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Internal Medicine at GanSu College of TCM Hospital. She has been in private practice on Los Angeles for over ten years, specializing in the treatment of gynecology and infertility. She has taught advanced courses in gynecology and pediatrics, and served as a clinical supervisor at Samra University, Emperor's College, and Yo San University.

Seth Leon is a Senior Instructor in the Harmony Taijiquan sequence at Yo San University. Seth trained intensively under Master instructor Jiang Jinye of the Capital District Tai Chi Association in Albany, NY from 1990 through 1996. During that time, Seth received teaching certification, assisting Master Jiang with classes five days a week while also leading continuing education classes at other locations. In 1997 Seth began his study at Yo San University and graduated in 2001 with a Master's of Traditional Chinese Medicine, achieving "Highest Honors." Seth has been teaching Harmony Style Taijiquan since 1998. Displaying a well rounded background, Seth also holds a B.S. in Statistics from the State University of New York, and currently works for the Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards and Student Testing at UCLA where his research has been focused on English Language Learners. He is also an avid and accomplished juggler.

Ming-dong Li has over 20 years experience practicing and teaching TCM in China and the United States. He began his study of qigong and tai chi as a teenager, earned his medical degrees from Heilongjiang University of TCM, where he later earned his PhD in Internal Medicine. He spent two years studying Tuina and orthopedics from Dr. Yu Da-Fang, a renowned Professor at Shanghai University of TCM. After completing his residency, he was an attending physician in the Department of Chinese Internal Medicine at the Shanghai Yu Dian Hospital. Ming-Dong emigrated to the U.S. in 1988, and was named Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at Royal University in Los Angeles in 1992, where he also served as Clinic Dean. He has published numerous articles on TCM topics. In addition to teaching at Yo San, he also maintains a private practice at the Yo San clinic.

Born into a long family tradition of Chinese medical doctors, Yue-ying Li earned her degrees in Chinese Medicine at the Luzhou University Medical School in 1982 and spent the following year in the hospital's emergency room, sharpening both her Western medical and TCM skills. She then served for many years as a TCM Internal Medicine Specialist, attending physician, and assistant professor, treating a large number of patients, teaching medical students, and conducting research in cardiovascular diseases and dermatological disorders. She went on to do advanced training in internal medicine, acupuncture and dermatology at Luzhou, Chengdu University of TCM and Sichuan Institute of Dermatology, studying under two of China's leading dermatologists. She left China in 1993 and spent two years practicing TCM in London, England, before moving to Los Angeles to join Yo San's didactic and clinical faculty.

Benny Lin has been a practitioner, researcher and teacher of Traditional Chinese Medicine for over twenty five years. Dr. Lin received his B.S. in Medicine from Guang Xi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China and his O.M.D from South Baylo University in California. Dr. Lin is a NCCAOM certified acupuncturist licensed in the states of New York and California. He also completed advanced training as the 3rd generation apprentice of the legendary Chinese doctor Master Kong Buohua. Besides teaching and practicing at Yosan, Dr. Lin holds a private practice and is a doctoral program faculty at Emperor’s College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Dr. Lin also regularly gives invited professional lectures nationwide.

Cathy McNease, B.S., M.H. is the co-author of 101 Vegetarian Delights and The Tao of Nutrition. She has received degrees with honors from Western Michigan University and Emerson College of Herbology. She holds a National Diploma in Chinese Herbology (NCCAOM) and is a professional member of the American Herbalist Guild. Ms. McNease is currently clinic director and a professor of nutrition and herbology at the Santa Barbara College of Oriental Medicine in Southern California.

Jason Moskovitz is a Licensed Acupuncturist and National Diplomat of Oriental Medicine. After receiving his Bachelors at UCLA and graduating Yo San with top honors, Jason received certifications as a Chinese nutritionist and an InfiniChi Therapist, the Ni family form of Chinese medical energy healing. Jason practices at the Ni family practice, Tao Of Wellness, in Santa Monica.

 

 

Andrea Murchison, L.Ac.

Andrea Murchison, originally from Halifax Nova Scotia, represents the 6th generation of healthcare professionals in her family. She studied Child Psychology in Toronto, Ontario and counseled emotionally challenged children and their families. While working with children with ADHD, Andrea began to search for alternative ways to assist these children, including dietary changes and Chiropractic medicine. After moving to California, Andrea developed a stronger passion for complementary medicine and an interest in TCM. She is a graduate of Yo San University and returned in the fall of 2008 to manage the Herbal Dispensary. She has recently moved into the Assistant Academic Dean position, is currently practicing at the University Community Clinic, and is teaching some of the TCM Fundamentals courses.

 

Daoshing Ni, DOM, PhD, L.Ac.

Daoshing Ni, with his brother, Mao Shing Ni, co-founded Yo San University in 1989. He started his studies in Chinese medicine with his father, Hua-Ching Ni, at an early age. After earning his O.M.D. and Ph. D. in Oriental Medicine, he took advanced studies in internal medicine, gynecology, and pediatrics at both Beijing and Nanjing Colleges of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China. At the age of 19, Daoshing was the youngest person to be licensed by the California Acupuncture Board. He has been in private practice at the Tao of Wellness since 1984, specializing in women’s health, gynecology, and reproductive medicine. In addition to his regular contributions to professional journals, Daoshing has written several books in Qigong and The Tao of Fertility, published by HarperCollins. Daoshing is considered to be one of the foremost authorities on TCM and fertility in America today. In 2009, Daoshing received the Dr. Joyce Vargyas Visionary Award by the American Fertility Society.

Mao Shing Ni, bestselling author, expert on longevity medicine, co-founder and past president of Yo San University, was born and raised in a family medical tradition that has spanned 38 generations. Popularly known as Dr. Mao, he first began his studies in Chinese medicine with his father, Hua-Ching Ni, a renowned Taoist master, physician and author-teacher. After earning his D.O.M. and Ph.D. in Oriental Medicine with an emphasis in Nutrition Dr. Mao went on to complete his postgraduate residency at Shanghai Medical University in China. Dr Mao lectures on Chinese medicine, wellness and longevity throughout the world. He maintains a full-time practice in Santa Monica at the Tao of Wellness and is also involved with curriculum development and teaching at Yo San. Recipient of the Acupuncturist of the Year award Dr. Mao has appeared extensively in national media in his tireless efforts to further the recognition of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. Among his numerous publications is respected translation of the Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Medicine and The Tao of Nutrition, which still serves as a required text for the California State Board Examination. He has also written the national bestseller Secrets of Longevity and the recently published Secrets of Self-Healing and Second Spring.

Luriko Ozeki has over 10 years of experience in nutrition and preventative health care, having helped countless people regain better health and a healthy lifestyle through nutritional counseling. She came to Yo San University to gain a deeper, fuller understanding of the effects of whole food nutrition on the body and to embark on a life-long passion to help others to a life of empowerment and optimal health. Having graduated with high honors from Yo San University, she now has a private practice in West Los Angeles, specializing in health maintenance, pain management, stress management, allergy alleviation, women’s health, detox programs, nutritional counseling and adjunct IVF acupuncture support. She is fluent in Spanish, Japanese and English.

Dr. Meredith Chunyi Qian is a California licensed Acupuncturist who received her M.D. degree in 1983 in China. She earned her Master Degree of Acupuncture Science in 1986 at the distinguished China Academy of TCM at the Institute of Acupuncture in Beijing, China. Dr. Qian has nearly 30 years experience in researching, practicing, and teaching Integrative Medicine, Acupuncture, and Chinese Herbology. Dr. Qian has been invited to give numerous lectures around the world in countries such as Italy, Israel, England, Jordan and the USA on the topics of Integrative Medicine, Acupuncture, & Herbology.

Mr. Redmond is presently a S.I.C.U. nurse at Santa Monica Hospital and a senior faculty member and Chair of the Department of Western Medicine at Emperor's College. He has a wide range of clinical experience including trauma, intensive care, anesthesia, and home health, coupled with a voracious appetite for current information and a sense of the macabre allows for a vivid illustration of subjects that might otherwise be considered a little dry.

 

Ed Shaheen, MD

Ed Shaheen studied and lived in a Franciscan monastery for six years before pursuing pre-medical studies at Loyola University of Los Angeles.  He received his M.D. from Tulane University in New Orleans and completed his residency in Family Practice at Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles. 

He also trained at both Charity Hospital in New Orleans and USC-LA County General Hospital, and has worked as a family physician with a personal patient load of 2500 to 3000 patients for more than 30 years.  During this time he has also taught medical students from UCLA and family practice residents in the clinic and at bedside.  He has additional experience in the emergency room, urgent care and hospital care settings and is certified in both the American Board of Family Medicine and American Board of Medical Acupuncture.

Ed Sullivan has practiced massage therapy for over twenty years and has many years of experience teaching energy movement. Ed is a Qi Development faculty member at Yo San and recently served as the department's Chair. He is also a certified InfiniChi therapist, trained to provide energetic healing through the InfiniChi program.

Huabing Wen received his medical training at the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and Pharmacology, and also received a Master's Degree in Integrated Medicine from the same institution. He served as Physician-in-Charge in their Department of Internal Medicine from 1991-1993. He has been a faculty member of Yo San University since 1995 while maintaining a private practice in Los Angeles, specializing in internal medicine.

Dr. Yang is an academic and clinical faculty member at Yo San University.

Dr. Qiwei Zheng is a California licensed Acupuncturist who earned his MD degree in 1976 in China. He then received his Master's Degree of Acupuncture Science in 1981 at the preestigious China Academy of TCM, Institute of Acupuncture in Beijing, China. He has over 35 years experience of researching, teaching, and practicing Integrative Medicine, TCM, and Acupuncture. Dr. Zheng has trained more than five thousand foreign medical doctors, medical technicians and students about Acupuncture from over one hundred countries.
