In addition to his intensive studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Blaska , has studied Ayurveda for more than twelve years and has traveled extensively in Asia including India.  Blaska’s presentation explored foundational Ayurvedic concepts of “energetics,” “source” and “manifestation” as well as the three doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) that dominate the theory.

Through a first of its kind contribution to the Community Presentation Series, the DAOM branch of the Yo San University Student Association (YSUSA) sponsored an enlightening session that provided a practical understanding of Ayurvedic Medicine and its applications.  Ayurveda, a system with primary focus on health/wellness, emerged out of India approximately 10,000 years ago.  At the October 10, 2013 session, YSU graduate and YSUSA DAOM representative, Mary Schulz, introduced John Blaska, L.Ac., a Minnesota resident, who is nearing completion of the YSU doctoral degree in the Healthy Aging/Longevity specialty area. Each dosha is associated with physiological and psychological/behavioral characteristics, and has accompanying dietary recommendations for optimal health.    The enthusiastic group of 25 YSU students, Faculty and other community members explored the theories with Blaska with special emphasis on drawing comparisons and parallels with Traditional Chinese Medicine perspectives.
