Doctoral Faculty

The quality of education in the DOAM program at Yo San University is a reflection of the expertise of the faculty and the dedication of the administration and staff. All were chosen for their superior knowledge and skill in their particular field and their demonstrated commitment and passion for healing. Many of the faculty including our founders, Daoshing and Mao Shing Ni, are descended from a lineage of TCM masters in China. Our biomedical and Professional Development faculty come from major Universities like UCLA, USC and Duke University. All are experienced, successful teachers and practitioners committed to a program designed to allow for student/faculty mentor relations and to provide information and skills that can be immediately applied in practice.



Don Lee, L.Ac.
Program: Doctoral

Don earned the MTOM degree from Emperor’s College and has severed in a number of faculty, supervisor and board positions in the Los Angeles area.

Ming Dong


Ming Dong Li, B.Med., M.S., Ph.D. (China), L.Ac., Dipl. O.M. (NCCAOM)

Currently, Dr. Li practices and teaches at the UCLA Center for East-West Medicine, is an instructor of Chinese Internal Medicine, Tuina and Taiji at Yo San University. Dr. Li’s new textbook Chinese Internal Medicine is now available from People’s Medical Publishing House.

Yue Ying


Yue Ying Li, L.Ac., MD (China)

Dr. Yue-ying Li comes from a long line of Chinese Medical Doctors. Her medical studies unofficially began as an active youth curiously tending to her own athletic injuries. This curiosity of medicine led her to study at the Luzhou University Medical School where she earned her Doctor of Chinese Medicine Degree.



Jennifer Magnabosco, Ph.D.
Program: DAOM

Jennifer L. Magnabosco, PhD, is Doctoral Professor for Research at Yo San University. She has been teaching the DAOM research courses since the summer of 2010 and preparing all doctoral students to conduct their Capstone research theses.

Mao Shing


Mao Shing Ni, D.O.M., Ph.D, L.Ac., ABAAHP

After earning his D.O.M. and Ph.D. in Oriental Medicine with an emphasis in Nutrition Dr. Mao went on to complete his postgraduate residency at Shanghai Medical University in China. Dr Mao lectures on Chinese medicine, wellness and longevity throughout the world.



Daoshing Ni, DOM, PhD, L.Ac.

At the age of 19, Daoshing was the youngest person to be licensed by the California Acupuncture Board. He has been in private practice at the Tao of Wellness since 1984, specializing in women’s health, gynecology, and reproductive medicine. 



Rosaleen Ostrick, MT (ASCP) S.M. (AAM), MPH, MA.
Program: MATCM

Rosaleen graduated from Yo San University in 2012. She is the Admin Director at Retina Clinical Research, Jules Stein Eye Institute / UCLA



Virginia Prior, L.Ac., DAOM
Program: DAOM

Dr. Prior is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine specialized in Reproductive Medicine / Women's Health from Yo San University. She is licensed by the California Acupuncture Board & NCCAOM, and is also ABORM certified.

Meredith Chun-yi


Meredith Chun-yi Qian, L.Ac. B. Med., M.Med.

Dr. Meredith Chunyi Qian is a California licensed Acupuncturist who received her M.D. degree in 1983 in China. She then also earned her Master Degree of Acupuncture Science in 1986 at the distinguished China Academy of TCM at the Institute of Acupuncture in Beijing, China. 



Robin Roberts, L.Ac., DAOM
Program: DAOM

Dr. Markus is the Founder and Clinical Director of Nourishing Life, a fertility and longevity institute. Dr. Markus, a leading infertility expert, lectures at medical colleges and at specialty conferences around the world.



Larry Ryan, Ph.D.
Program: DAOM

Larry Ryan is a licensed California psychologist with an extensive background in Higher Education. He earned his Bachelor’s degree at John Carroll University, his Masters degree at East Carolina University, and his Ph.D. degree at The University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada



Edmund Shaheen, M.D.

Ed Shaheen studied and lived in a Franciscan monastery for six years before pursuing pre-medical studies at Loyola University of Los Angeles. He received his M.D. from Tulane University in New Orleans and completed his residency in Family Practice at Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles.



Cynthia Splies, L.Ac., DAOM
Program: DAOM

Dr. Splies has been practicing Chinese Medicine since 2004.  She received her doctorate from Yo San University in 2011, masters in TCM from Santa Barbara College of Oriental Medicine in 2003 and bachelors in environmental studies from California State University, Hayward in 1998.

Pam Tarlow, Pharm.D
Program: DAOM

Pam Tarlow has been a licensed community pharmacist since 1981, when she received her Pharm.D. from the University of Southern California (USC). For over 17 years she has specialized in integrative pharmacy, helping customers and professionals effectively use natural products, integrated therapies, and pharmaceuticals for prevention and health care concerns.
