Dr. Kumiko Yamamoto

Kumiko feels strongly that the benefits of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) are maximized through the simultaneous practice of qigong. As a result, above and beyond the extensive qigong training that she experienced through the Master’s Degree program at Yo San University, Kumiko also engaged additional trainings that led to certifications in Harmony Tai Chi, Crane Style Qi Gong and Tai Chi Sword forms. With extensive externship placements at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Premiere Oncology, and Venice Family Clinic, by the time she graduated Kumiko was experienced in treating a wide range of patients and conditions.

In spite of the fact that her early university education was in the area of pre-law, Kumiko Yamamoto has had a life-long interest in health and wellness as facilitated through Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Consistent with the expression of the theory and practice of the Ni Family legacy, Kumiko feels strongly that the benefits of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) are maximized through the simultaneous practice of qigong. Writing, professional and community education presentations have also been a part of Kumiko experience. While in her Master’s program she authored a text, Kumiko’s TCM Charts, a digital workbook for the study of TCM that provides students with a practical and pictorial focus on acupuncture, herbal formulas, and diagnostic procedures. As a sought after speaker, Kumiko has provided community lectures on topics ranging from cancer care to weight loss at local libraries and other venues. After graduating with her Master’s Degree with the highest honors, Kumiko earned both California State licensure and national certification as an acupuncturist. Kumiko has served as a qigong faculty member at Yo San University, and has facilitated many other qigong groups including a long term commitment to a special group of women who are a part of a Santa Monica, CA based spiritual and wellness community. In 2010 Kumiko entered the fellowship program at the Tao of Wellness , where she quickly established a specialty of working with fertility cases. For Kumiko, participating in the Yo San University DAOM Program was a natural progression in her education and career paths. Kumiko’s quest is clearly one of service and life-long learning. For her doctoral program capstone research dissertation, Kumiko completed a study of the effects of TCM therapy durations on pregnancy outcomes of women of advanced maternal age. Her study included the retrospective review of the archived
charts of women who sought TCM treatment for infertility. Kumiko poured over hundreds of charts screening for and recording data from those cases that met the strict inclusion and exclusion criteria established by the parameters of her study. Her doctoral research experience was a full and productive one that resulted in the generation of a dissertation document that is rich with data and insights for fertility practitioners. As a result of her experiences in the Yo San University DAOM Program, Dr. Kumiko Yamamoto has firmly established herself as a competent scholar/practitioner, who offers the added values of firm commitments to research and qi cultivation, factors which she uses with each patient with whom she collaborates in the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
