YO SAN STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Jennifer Haroun

Jennifer Haroun, Yo San student spotlight I chose Yo San because of its warm, community feel and impressive TCM curriculum. The first time I visited and attended an open house I felt very welcomed and inspired and knew that it was the school I wanted to attend.

1. Why did you choose Yo San?
I chose Yo San because of its warm, community feel and impressive TCM curriculum. The first time I visited and attended an open house I felt very welcomed and inspired and knew that it was the school I wanted to attend.

2. What are your plans once you graduate and become licensed?
I would love to join a wellness clinic in which acupuncture, herbal medicine, chiropractic, and massage therapy are all offered in the convenience of one location. I feel that integrative medicine truly empowers patients and allows them to entrust in a team of medical professionals from various disciplines who share the goal of working together to heal their patients.

3. Do you have a favorite herb? Herbal formula?
My favorite herbal formula is Yin Qiao San. It works great on my kids and I have used it for treating a cold, flu, fever, sore throat, and even hand foot and mouth virus. Its heat clearing, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral properties are incredible. My 3 year old daughter sometimes asks for it when she's feeling sick and calls it her "magic drink". 4. When not at Yo San, where would we find you? A: Usually at home with my family. My husband Peter and I have a 3 year old daughter and a 1 year old son, so we definitely stay busy! When not at home or school, I’m often at family gatherings, birthday parties, or weddings. Both Peter and I come from huge Egyptian families so there's never really an uneventful weekend.

5. Any favorite summer activities?
I love going to Manhattan Beach. It's definitely my favorite city in Los Angeles:) Peter and I always take our kids there for walks along the beach and whenever we get a chance, it's a huge treat to catch a summer concert at Pollywog park.

6. As a mommy of young children, describe your daily routine and how you manage both responsibilities.
It's certainly very challenging, but I am very blessed to have a supportive family who believes in me and believes in Traditional Chinese Medicine. I could not be at Yo San without their help and support. My husband and parents are always helping me so much with the kids and allow me the time to study when I need it. An average day is usually pretty hectic. In the morning we get both kids ready, get ourselves ready, have breakfast and go. I drop our son off at my parents house and Peter drops our daughter off at preschool. I then head off to school for classes and if I have time I stay at school and study afterwards. I then go pick-up my son and head home to make dinner. Once dinner is done, the post-dinner clean-up is daunting task with messy, food-spilling children! Then we start baths for the little ones and soon after begin the bedtime routine. We usually take the divide and conquer approach with bedtime. Once they're asleep and the dishes get done, I try to slowly regain my sanity and then study Some days are easier than others, but thankfully we have found a way to have a healthy balance between school and family life. They are both paramount priorities in my life and I work hard to make time for each.

7. Do you cook or bake? If so, what is your favorite thing to prepare?
I love to cook! My family loves home-cooked food too so I usually cook every day. I like to get some variety so I make different types of cuisine like Mexican, Asian, Indian, and Italian but my favorite is probably Middle Eastern food. Yum!
