Oriental Reproductive Medicine

Session 1: Infertility – A Western Medical Perspective
Richard Buyalos, MD, FACOG

This course presents Western biomedical background information and knowledge on infertility. It will review the anatomy and physiology of both the male and female reproductive systems, and pathology of infertility. Learn how to take an appropriate history oriented to infertility, basic evaluations, and how make a differential diagnosis.

Session 2: Infertility – A Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Perspective
Instructor:  Meredith Chun-Yi Qian, MD (China), LAc

This course presents infertility from a TCM perspective. Explore the various causes of infertility, and TCM disease pattern identification and diagnosis. Topics will include TCM anatomy and physiology, menstrual and pregnancy-related disorders, and the TCM relationship to Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART).

Session 3: Diagnostic Methods in Infertility and Assisted Reproductive Technology
Instructor: Ashim Kumar, MD

This course will focus on biomedical diagnostic methods and procedures related to infertility, including male and female surgical therapies and semen analysis. It will also introduce concepts of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART), including Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) and In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF).

Session 4: Gestational Disorders and Ethical Guidelines on Treating Infertility
Instructor: Ashim Kumar, MD

Examine various gestational disorders from a Western biomedical perspective, including the causes of Recurrent Pregnancy Loss. Discussion will also include ethical guidelines on treating infertility, as well as psychological issues and when to refer out.

Session 5: TCM Management of Infertility
Instructor: Daoshing Ni, OMD, PhD, LAc

Focus on the management of infertility with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), specifically with the use of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. Topics include developing a treatment plan, selection of herbs and acupoints, side effects and herbal interactions, and treatment indications.

Session 6: Integrative Management of Infertility – TCM & ART

Explore the integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). Topics will include acupuncture protocols, ethical guidelines, the goals of ART during treatment phases from a TCM perspective, and applications of herbs during IVF procedures.
